SURIGAO CITY, March 18, 2011 – Surigao City Mayor Ernesto Matugas and Henry Gaisano II, President and Chief Executive Officer of the Gaisano Capital Group led the simple ground breaking rites yesterday at Barangay Luna, this city. Together with the officers of the Gaisano Capital Group based in Cebu City and some barangay, city and provincial officials, the ground breaking took place at around 10 a.m. in the 3.4-hectare site along the national highway adjacent to the St. Paul University and the city’s land transport terminal.
In the luncheon that followed at Hotel Tavern hosted by the Surigao City Chamber of Commerce and Industry, City Mayor Matugas welcomed the group and thanked them for trusting the city as their investment location. Mayor Matugas further said: “This is more than just a corporate expansion on your part for your entry here in our city will truly make a difference in the lives of the Surigaonons. We look forward to a more fruitful partnership with you.” Henry Gaisano II in his response said: “Gaisano Capital never had a second thought in coming to Surigao City. We believe Surigaonons greatly deserve a shopping mall. We have read your letters in blogs and in the internet and we came here in answer to your prayer.”
Atty. Eric Labrada of the Gaisano Capital Group said they are initially targeting September this year for their soft opening with full operations to commence in December barring any hitches in their construction timetable, especially so that the city’s weather is unpredictable. Atty. Labrada further said that during full operation, the mall will employ around 600 to 800 people. Building area will occupy around 1 hectare but the total floor area will be around 2.5 hectares.
Although the Gaisano Capital Group is mum about how much they are investing for this mall project, local engineers estimated the cost to be no less than P500 million based on the size and area of the intended project.

I hope the Mayor and the Gaisano Group will not forget or ignore the small Tuazon village (of about 50 families) behind the site of the new Gaisano Surigao Mall. We currently have terrible road access to our village and are in desperate need of proper drainage.

Well there is really no problem if the road you are talking about is classified as city road or barangay road since it will really have a share of the annual maintenance and improvement works done by city hall or barangay, including the drainage system.
However, as the usual case with most subdivision roads, these are mostly private roads owned by the homeowners or the subdivision developer and some are not even constructed according to the standard width required for housing subdivisions.
I am really not familiar with Tuazon Village so I suggest you check it out whether it is already a registered housing subdivision in the city (like Villa Corito) with approved development plans by the City Council, the engineering and planning offices.
